What is astronaut heart?
Astronaut Heart is a webcomic that explores interconnected realities, technology, identity, and healing. Act 1 combines narrative and poetry, with vibes of 2001 A Space Odyssey. It includes excerpts from the artists life, and deals with healing trauma in order to relate and connect to each other as humans.
Act 2 of the comic uses collaborative world building techniques. It supposes a magical and thriving solarpunk future like Final Fantasy meets Earth Seed.
Who are you?
My name is Devon Serket. I’m a queer and transgender artist who grew up in small town Ontario, and have lived and worked in Toronto for 10 years. I worked in a non-profit as a peer support worker for 5 years while getting a degree in illustration from OCADu, graduating in 2019. I strove to challenge myself and evolve my art through personal projects and started developing Astronaut Heart in 2020, eventually moving from focusing on comics to animation. I graduated from Sheridan’s Computer Animation graduate program in 2025.

Why do this?
I hope my experiences of navigating heartbreak and trauma can resonate with people who are like me, struggling along on this seemingly endless path to recovery, connection and finding safety. Astronaut Heart is the story of coming back to yourself and finding radical trust in the process of living.
I want to imagine new, radical worlds
It’s my hope that interacting with these topics of identity and healing will build a community that wants to explore these ideas and in doing so generate real, radical change.
In the future I want to explore community care, anarchism, mutual aid, supporting indigenous communities and sustainable structures so we can continue to live and thrive on this planet.
